Art Facilitation of Entries for The Western Cape Department of Education’s “Children’s Art Celebration Competition” At Die Bron Primary School in Stanford

September 16, 2019

Creative Works facilitated art at Die Bron Primary School in Stanford from the 15 th April to the31 st  July this year, working towards entries for the Western Cape Department of Education’s annual “Children’s Art Celebration” competition.
This annual art celebration is all about acknowledging and celebrating children and their unique self-expression, creating a platform for children to tell their stories, ask questions and develop their voices towards participating in the adventure that is life.

Every picture is a once in a life time creation. It carries the unique finger print of each child and is an expression and individual emotion relevant in the bigger picture for all of us working with children.
We thank the children that participated in this with us and Die Bron Primary School for the collaboration.entries for the competition. We facilitated 62 children during the period April to the end of July 2019 and we submitted 26 entries for the Competition.
Stories were told to the children without showing any pictures to allow them to create art from their own imagination. Some children told their favorite stories and created a painting from them, and others, painted their own lives as their stories.
Oil pastels and paints were used and in some of the later facilitation, collage art works were done.

The selection process was very difficult as we wanted to give everyone an opportunity to
participate.
To make the selection process fair, we chose equal
learners from each grade in order to offer every child
an opportunity to show their talent.
Because we have such beautiful art works, we have
decided to have an exhibition on the 28 th  September
in the Okkie Smuts Primary School’s hall and this
will be part of Stanford’s Festival program. This will be a way for the community to celebrate children's’ art, their talent and the spirit  of the Stanford children. We have invited all the schools in the area to be part of the Celebration.

Die Bron had 4 winners – Damon Roman (Grade R), Zayad Afrikaner (Grade 1), Bradley Siljeur(Grade 4) and Reynold October (Grade 5).
The awards were presented to the children at the District Gala Award Ceremony held at
Benguela Cove on the 17 th August which we attended with the 4 winners, their parents and Die Bron Primary School’s Head of Department, Mrs Corina Nicholson.
Reynold October, who was facilitated by mentoring artist Niel Jonker, was awarded a Gold Medal and will be going with his family to the Provincial Gala Award Ceremony where the art will be exhibited at the exceptional Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town. It was a wonderful event with all the art entered exhibited and this lovely venue and we are extremely proud of the children.

Our heartfelt appreciation to our mentoring artists as well as Die Bron Primary School for the collaboration, thank you to our funders  and well- done winners from Die Bron Primary School,
